The new year is right around the corner, and if your resolution is to be healthier, doctors at Staten Island University Hospital have some tips.

Doctor Brahim Ardolic says people always start off the new year with big goals in mind, like running marathons or losing tons of weight.

But he says the best way to get started is to set smaller, more realistic goals.

"The next two weeks, I am going to walk five miles in a week. Most people listening to this right now could absolutely do that within the next two weeks. Absolutely could. I didn't say how fast you had to walk it, just walk it. It's an attainable goal that you can actually do. And I think if you start seeing positive things that you're actually getting out of it, that will encourage you to get the next step going forward," said Ardolic.

Dr. Ardolic says people should also get regular immunizations because too many people die each year from the flu and other common medical problems that could have easily been avoided.
