College students in the borough are urging President-elect Donald Trump to continue to protect some illegal immigrants.

El Centro del Inmigrante hosted a panel Tuesday to discuss DACA, or Deferred Action for Child Arrivals.

The policy started in 2012 and was created to help protect certain people who came to the United States as children from deportation.

They are also eligible for a work permit.

Those on the panel say they fear the executive order is at risk under a Trump administration.

"The new president has the power to basically erase DACA and that is something that is very concerning for all of us," said Favio Ramirez-Caminatti, the Executive Director of El Centro Del Inmigrante.

"You're given a better chance with DACA because you don't feel like a person left in the shadows. You feel like you belong here," said Luigi Mejia, a DACA recipient.

Panelists including Mejia say they hope future applicants will get the same opportunities they had under the policy.
