NEW YORK - Santa Claus probably wasn't the only one chowing down on Christmas cookies this weekend.
That's why some New Yorkers got up bright and early to hit the gym at Chelsea Piers.
Instructor Kevin Swan tells NY1 this week is a good time to beat the New Year's rush of resolution-makers.
"The week of debauchery that is Christmas, the eating, and drinking, and having fun, and opening gifts and so on and so forth is all fine and well, but then you end up maybe feeling gluttonous afterwards and you say I don't want to wait 'til the New Year, I want to jump in right away," Swan said.
Swan also says the key is to start small.
"You don't want to take on too much," he said. "Because you can get fatigued, burn out, you can injure yourself so just take it slow ease on into it."
The performance center at Chelsea Piers also now features steel-mill treadmills, which provide a more advanced and more flexible workout.
