NEW YORK - A new exhibit on the city's history has it all - a blast from the past, present and future.

"New York at its Core" is a permanent addition to the Museum of the City of New York.

It shows the city's beginnings as a Dutch village to now, the capital of the world.

The goal was to capture the unique energy that makes New York so special.

"We have four themes that we say make New York uniquely the city that it is and those themes are money, diversity, density and creativity and we carry those themes through all the galleries," said MCNY President Whitney Donhauser.

The exhibit is the centerpiece of a multi-million dollar renovation of the entire museum.

It officially opens to the public on Friday.
