The city has recorded its first human West Nile virus case of the season.
The health department says an infection has been confirmed in a Brooklyn man who was diagnosed with encephalitis.
He's described as being over the age of 40 with an underlying medical condition.
The mosquito-borne virus can cause flu-like symptoms in some, and a serious and potentially fatal infection of the brain and spinal cord in others, particularly people age 60 and over.
More than 300 New Yorkers have been diagnosed with West Nile since the virus arrived in the United States in 1999.
The health department says the Zika virus has not been found in any mosquitos in the city.
