A 21-year-old man with a suspended license has been charged in a fatal double hit-and-run in Brooklyn.
Efrin Lanfranco-Perez has been charged with two counts of leaving the scene of a fatal accident, and driving without a valid license.
Police say he was speeding down Fulton Street in his Acura sedan early Monday morning in Cypress Hills, when he struck Delmer Maldonado and Israel Turcios.
A witness who barely avoided being hit himself told NY1 the horrific accident had an emotional impact.
"It's the worst car accident I've ever seen in my life," he said. "I haven't cried in a lotta years"
Maldonado died at the scene and Turcios was pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.
Authorities say that after hitting the two men, the suspect crashed his car into a parked car, and ran away on foot.
They also say that shortly after fleeing the scene, the suspect told his stepmother that he'd been in an accident and was "messed up in the head."
Lanfranco-Perez is being held on $30,000 bond. He is due back in court at the end of this week.
