A heat advisory will be in effect Wednesday and the city is warning to New Yorkers to stay safe.

It will be in effect until at least 8 p.m. Thursday.

Thunderstorms will likely move in later in the day Wednesday with temperatures climbing to 86 degrees in the afternoon.

New Yorkers are advised to stay inside with air conditioning and take precautions to stay cool, including drinking plenty of water and limiting strenuous activity.

That especially goes for the elderly and people with medical conditions.

Cooling centers are also open today across the five boroughs.
