Police are trying to identify and find the driver in a fatal hit and run overnight. Our Michael Herzenberg has the story from Cypress Hills.
This fatal hit and run killed two pedestrians. Police have surveillance video but it's so horrific, we can't show it.
"I heard the boom, I seen the car," said one witness. "That man and the other man flew down the block. I have no idea how he ended up down the block."
This witness says he was sitting outside a bar just after midnight and saw the car coming right at him. He thought he was going to die.
"It's the worst car accident I've ever seen in my life," he said. "I haven't cried in a lotta years"
The impact lifted one of the victims right out of his shoes.
41-year-old Delmer Maldonado died at the scene.
Emergency Medical Services rushed 56-year-old Israel Turcios to Brookdale Hospital where Doctors pronounced the father of three adult children dead.
One of his sons tells us in Spanish that both men were originally from Honduras and worked together on construction sites.
"I just want him to be remembered as a friendly person," said Franklin Turcios. "He was friendly to everyone. He loved to share. He was unique."
Police spent the morning reconstructing the wreck at the intersections of Fulton and Chestnut Street and interviewing witnesses. Those who live and work in the area looked on in disbelief.
"It's terrible, terrible to hear that you walk around your own neighborhood and you just get killed," said one neighbor. "Just innocent people."
"It's innocent life," said another. "It's crazy man"
