The city's newest green space will open its gates this weekend in Lower Manhattan.
Land at the Battery once occupied by asphalt is now the lawn of the Battery Oval.
The project has been 30 years in the making, and opens for the first time on Saturday.
"Ovals of this scale are rare in our city. It's 90,000 square feet of turf. This is special turf, it's been planted and the roots have been growing for over a year," said President and Founder of the Battery Conservancy Warrie Price.
"It's going to be the new meeting place in Lower Manhattan," said Community Board 1 Chairperson Catherine Hughes.
The park is celebrating its grand opening with a two-day festival this weekend.
