Mayor Bill de Blasio's office says a number of City Hall staffers have been served subpoenas as federal and state prosecutors investigate his fundraising and political activities.
In a statement released last night, Counsel to the Mayor Maya Wiley said, "City Hall has been subpoenaed by the New York County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District and we are fully cooperating with the investigation. The Mayor has not been personally served."
The subpoenas come less than a week after the state Board of Elections accused de Blasio's team of violating campaign finance laws when he tried to help Democrats win control of the State Senate in 2014.
The board also referred the matter to the Manhattan District Attorney for possible criminal prosecution.
The mayor insists his team did nothing illegal.
His counsel says de Blasio was not personally served a subpoena, and that his office is fully cooperating with the investigation.
According to published reports, mayoral aide Emma Wolfe is among those who have been subpoeaned.
Fundraiser Ross Offinger and consulting firm BerlinRosen reportedly have been served as well.
