A major real estate project reaches new heights in its construction.

The Flushing Commons complex developers finished the first phase of development Friday.

The final beam was placed on two high-rise buildings which stand at 14 and ten stories tall each.

The 1.8-million-square-foot project is set to include residential, office, retail, parking and, community space in five buildings.

"It has all sorts of community benefits and amenities that really isn't available in Flushing," said Michael Meyer, president of the F&T Group. "There's going to be a 62,000-square-foot YMCA. That's going to be spanking new and magnificent and one of their crowning jewels."

Work on the building's outer facade is ongoing and is expected to be complete by the end of the year.
