Democrat Michael McMahon won a close and hard-fought race for Staten Island district attorney over Republican Joan Illuzzi.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting as of 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, McMahon has 55 percent of the vote to Illuzzi's 45 percent.

In his victory speech, McMahon turned right to the issues Staten Island faces.

"Our children are dying because of the drug epidemic that ravages us here on Staten Island. Our young people are dying at the hands of gun violence and street violence at numbers that are not acceptable. Our women and children are being battered in their own homes. Our rates of domestic violence have to come down, and we will begin the work tomorrow," McMahon said.

McMahon is a former congressman and City Councilman. Illuzzi is a former Manhattan prosecutor.

They were vying to replace former DA Dan Donovan, who left the office for a seat in Congress.

Meanwhile, Democrat Darcel Clark won the race for Bronx DA easily over her opponent, Republican Robert Siano.

With 98 percent of precincts reporting as of 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Clark has 86 percent of the vote to Siano's 14 percent.

Clark's candidacy was surrounded by controversy. She was hand-picked by the Bronx Democratic Party after longtime DA Robert Johnson claimed he "changed his mind" on re-election and would become a judge.

Speaking to supporters Tuesday, Clark vowed to bring reform to the office.

The Bronx native said the job has never been far from her view.

"Now, serving as Bronx district attorney, as you know, has been a lifelong dream of mine," Clark said. "It's been a dream that I've had since I was a young girl growing up in the Soundview projects. The Bronx was, is and always will be my home."

Clark becomes the first female district attorney in the history of the Bronx.

In Queens, longtime incumbent District Attorney Richard Brown won another term. He ran for re-election unopposed.

NY1 projects Democrat Barry Grodenchik as the winner in an election for City Council in eastern Queens. With all precincts reporting, Grodenchik has 55 percent of the vote. Republican Joseph Concannon got 38 percent of the vote, while Rebecca Lynch of the Working Families Party got 7 percent of the vote.

On Staten Island, Joseph Borelli won the race for a City Council seat in the 51st district. He ran unopposed.

Democrat Roxanne Persaud is projected to be the winner in the race for a state Senate seat in the 19th District in Brooklyn over Republican Jeffrey Ferretti and Conservative candidate Elias Weir. With 95 percent of precincts reporting as of 12:15 a.m. Wednesday, Persaud has 90 percent of the vote.

Persaud fills the seat formerly held by John Sampson, who resigned after being convicted of giving false statements to the FBI.

Democrat Alicia Hyndman was the winner in a state Assembly race in the 29th District in Queens over Republican Scherie Murray. With all precincts reporting, Hyndman has 93 percent of the vote.

In the 43rd Assembly district in Brooklyn, Democrat Pamela Harris defeated Republican Lucretia Regina-Potter. With all precincts reporting, Harris has 63 percent of the vote.
