New York is well-represented at the World Series.
Governor Andrew Cuomo, a lifelong Mets fan, is in Kansas City to cheer on the Amazins.
NY1 caught up with the governor ahead of Game 1.
"I grew up in Queens. I used to ride my bicycle to Shea Stadium, which is where the Mets used to play," Cuomo said. "My father, who's the former governor of New York, was a big baseball fan, and some of my biggest memories were watching the Mets with him. We lost him this year. And the Mets were always the scrappy, the underdog team. They were the middle-class, working man's team, and they still are. So it's special, and I wanted to come out today and wanted them to see a friendly face and know that there are millions of New Yorkers who are rooting for them."
Meanwhile, the mayor of Kansas City challenged Mayor Bill de Blasio to a friendly bet.
If the Mets win, Kansas City Mayor Sly James would go to the Kansas City School of Ballet and sing "New York, New York" in a Mets jersey. If Kansas City wins, de Blasio would have to sing the song "Kansas City" in a Royals jersey at a New York school.
There's a tasty incentive as well. The loser has to send New York cheesecake to Kansas City or Kansas City ribs to New York.
Cuomo and Missouri Governor Jay Nixon have their own bet with bagels from Junior's Bagel Factory in Queens on the line, among other gifts.
