Two Rikers Island correction officers are facing charges for allegedly recruiting prisoners to attack an inmate.

Bronx District Attorney Robert Johnson says 39-year old Nakia Gales lured Gilbert Bacallao into a vestibule with the promise of a package arrival.

Officials say fellow officer 41-year-old Herman Jiminian then helped Gales recruit four inmates to assault him.

They say it happened after an altercation to teach Bacallao a lesson.

Court documents also accuse Gales of being affliliated with the "Bloods" gang.

Both officers are facing assault, falsifying records and misconduct charges among others. If convicted, they can spend up to seven years behind bars.

The inmates involved are also facing assault charges.

The Department of Corrections said in a statement. "The vast majority of Correction Officers perform their duties with the highest integrity, and Commissioner Ponte has zero tolerance for those who don't. A key plank of DOC's 14-point anti violence initiative is improving staff recruitment, selection and training, in order to promote a culture of safety throughout the Department."
