Young artists are taking on social issues in Brooklyn.
A mural was painted on the side of a food bazaar supermarket in Bedford-Stuyvesant by 20 young women with the organization Groundswell.
It's meant to address gender-based violence with messages of respect for women.
"The message of our design is that street harassment needs to stop," said Danielle McDonald, a lead teaching artist with Groundswell. "We're talking about catcalling, saying inappropriate sexual comments, grabbing, following, assault."
"Women are not only being degraded with derogatory words, but they're also being followed, which is not a way to compliment someone. It's more of a way of harassment," said artist Jessica Martinez.
Groundswell unveiled the mural a day after unveiling one in the Bronx that spotlights the dangers of drunk driving.
In all, the group plans seven murals in Brooklyn, Manhattan and the Bronx.
