A Brooklyn church helped drivers get a good price at the pumps.
Members of Miracle Center International gave away free gas to more than a hundred drivers at a Shell gas station on Atlantic Avenue and Classon Avenue.
Organizers say church members sponsored the giveaway.
Drivers NY1 spoke with say they have never seen anything like this.
"I was just driving down and the brother over there pulled me over, that man, and I said to myself, 'It can’t be. Too good to be true,” said one man who filled up for free.
“I couldn't believe it. And I just stood in line and I said 'Okay, now this is not going on,' said one woman. “And I said 'Okay, I still wanted to give a donation.’ Nobody's receiving anything, I thought. This is awesome though.”
“We've been here since 1 p.m. We've given out about 100 or something cars already, gas today. And people have been smiling and excited about it. And we're so happy about that," said Pastor Nicolas Uagbor.
While they have handed out water in the past, organizers say this is the first time they have given away free gas.
The church says it hopes to do a free MetroCard giveaway in a few months.
