June marks a milestone anniversary for an important part of U.S. history, and Queens residents are celebrating in style.
To celebrate its 140th anniversary, the Maple Grove Cemetery held a Civil War reenactment, Sunday, to commemorate 150 years since the end of the war.
Residents visited the cemetery in Kew Gardens and interacted with historical figures of the time like Harriet Tubman and Frederick Douglass, saw a Union soldiers encampment and got to talk history with reenactors.
Those we spoke with said that preserving the time of the Civil War is something everyone should support.
The event was free of charge.
