Amtrak service in our area could be getting a boost from Washington.
The House this week passed a bill that would allow Amtrak to take money generated from the profitable Northeast Corridor and use it to make improvements to the service, including faster trains.
Amtrak officials have long complained that Northeast Corridor profits had to subsidize unprofitable long-distance routes across the country.
The bill would also give states more input on Amtrak budgets and service changes.
The Senate still needs to approve the measure.
