Rep. Dan Goldman has joined the ranks of state congressional delegates backing Vice President Kamala Harris to become the new Democratic nominee following President Joe Biden’s departure from the election.

“I think she's been the vice president for three and a half years, being right by Joe Biden’s side as he has passed historic legislation on infrastructure, renewable energy, lowering prescription drug prices, bipartisan gun safety—the list goes on and on,” he said during an appearance on “Mornings On 1” Tuesday. “And this is what you have a vice president for in many ways is to learn the ropes side by side with someone with the experience, wisdom and patriotism of Joe Biden.”

Goldman, a Democrat representing lower Manhattan and parts of Brooklyn, also pointed to Harris’ background as a prosecutor as a key quality that could help her defeat Donald Trump in November.

“She's really well positioned to prosecute the case against the convicted felon who's running on the other side of the ticket. And so, it was not a difficult decision for me at all. I think she'll be a fabulous candidate. And I think she's grown into herself and the job as vice president and is ready to take on this new challenge,” Goldman said.

His decision to back Harris comes as she has garnered enough support from delegates to win the Democratic nomination.

"We're about 100 days away from the election. So we need to start focusing on putting forward our best foot and so I think it makes sense that so many have coalesced around Kamala Harris," he said.
