The Republican nominee for mayor, Nicole Malliotakis, is trailing Mayor Bill de Blasio by 40 points in two polls released Thursday. But she's hoping to gain ground by painting a dark picture of the city, in which mentally-ill homeless people are committing crimes and ruining the city's quality of life.
