The city’s Department of Social Services says it has been a record-breaking year for moving New Yorkers out of shelters and into a long-term housing solution.

According to a new progress report from the agency, more than 18,500 families moved out of shelter and into stable homes — a 24% increase from the last fiscal year.

According to DSS, more homeless New Yorkers were connected to subsidized permanent housing than any year in recent history. This, despite a historic low in housing availability.

It all comes as the department gears up for its annual HOPE Survey, which is when hundreds of New Yorkers volunteer to estimate the number of people who are living on city streets and subways.

DSS Commissioner Molly Wasow Park joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Thursday to discuss more.

The department oversees homeless services and the human resources administration.
