After hours of negotiations last week, the City Council and the Adams administration struck a deal on the mayor’s plan to build more housing in every borough, known as the “City of Yes.”
A modified version of the plan cleared two key committee votes and is set to be voted on by the full Council next week.
The changes include a significant reduction in the number of potential new housing units being built, from 108,000 down to around 80,000. Other changes include a tiered system for parking mandates, limits on building new units in flood zones and deeper affordable housing requirements.
City Councilmember Shaun Abreu, who represents parts of Morningside Heights, down to the Upper West Side, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss more.
He also serves as the chair of the Committee on Sanitation and Solid Waste Management, and he is on the zoning subcommittee.
