A fatal shooting occurred at the West Indian Day Parade in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, on Monday.

Police are still searching for the gunman investigators say shot and killed a 25-year-old man from Texas. The shooting also wounded four others along the parade route.

On Tuesday, Mayor Eric Adams praised the efforts of the NYPD and said authorities had taken 25 guns off the street leading up to J’Ouvert, which is the celebration that takes place in the early morning hours ahead of the parade.

The annual event has often seen outbreaks of stabbings and shootings and has renewed questions about how the festivities should be policed.

Brian Saunders, the president of the Community Council at the NYPD’s 77th Precinct, joined NY1 political anchor Errol Louis on “Inside City Hall” Tuesday to discuss more.
