As Spectrum News 1 reported last month, New York's higher education system is again seeing an increase in enrollment, as colleges and universities across the nation trend downward.
New data out from the State University of New York system on Wednesday shows an increase of 2.3% in enrollment from last fall. Last year, SUNY saw an increase of 1.1% from the year prior.
This is the first back-to-back enrollment increase for SUNY in 15 years.
More than 376,000 students are enrolled right now.
SUNY said first-time enrollment is up about 1% from last year, while nationally first-time enrollment declined 5%.
“SUNY is on the move, expanding academic success, research innovation, student support, and opportunities for workforce development and upward mobility. We look forward to continuing this work in partnership with Governor Hochul, the legislature, and our partners at the local, state, and federal levels," SUNY Chancellor John King said in a statement.
