NY1's weekly segment "Your Weekend Starts Now" shows entertaining picks for great things to do this weekend all around the city.

"Black Fashion Designers" at FIT

First up, let's head to the Museum at FIT for its exhibition Black Fashion Designers. The exhibit makes clear these designers do not speak in one voice. Instead, this show is an effort to shine the spotlight on so many designers who were too often overlooked. Several generations of fashion designers of African descent from the 1950s to the present are on view.

Show off your own style with a night at the always glamourous Metropolitan Opera. See the new production of Dvořák’s fairtytale "Rusalka." This magical, mystical opera is playing through March 2.

"Perpetual Revolution" at ICP

At The International Center of Photography, see the new exhibit "Perpetual Revolution: The Image and Social Change." It examines the importance of visual culture to issues ranging from gender fluidity to the refugee crisis.

At the Five Myles Gallery in Crown Heights check out the exhibit "Everything Continues." This ecclectic group show is up through Sunday. 

"A Taste for Chocolate" at The Morris-Jumel Mansion

Finished all your Valentine's candy already? Well, not to worry. At the Morris Jumel Mansion enjoy the new exhibit "A Taste For Chocolate." Manhattan's oldest house, built in 1765, explores cacao and chocolate as a commodity and breakfast drink in colonial and post-colonial America. 

Florence Henderson Memorial Tuesday

There will be an open to the public tribute to Florence Hendrson at the Music Box Theatre on West 45th Street Tuesday. Doors open at 1:20 p.m. Best know for her starring role as TV mom Carol Brady in the "The Brady Bunch," Henderson  also had an accomplished career on Broadway and beyond. Henderson passed away in November at age 82.

"One Way or Another: Black Women's Cinema, 1970-1991" at BAM

Now through February 23 at BAM, BAM Cinématek celebrates the black women director trailblazers. This film series is called "One Way or Another: Black Women's Cinema, 1970-1991," and it marks the recent restoration and re-release of Julie Dash's 1991 masterpiece "Daughters of the Dust."

Balé Folclórico da Bahia at Lehman Center

Sunday afternoon at Lehman Center for the Performing Arts, check out the the Brazilian folk dance troupe Balé Folclórico da Bahia. Tickets start at $40, but kids' tickets 12 and under are only $10.
