City Hall Hosts Country's First Internet Safety Summit
August 09, 2008

The first-ever Cyber Safety Summit was held at City Hall forum Saturday.

The open forum brought together people from all walks of life, including representatives from internet giants Microsoft and Google.

The event featured workshops on the hidden dangers of the internet and children's video games.

"Even the handheld games have access to wireless connections. So games that we didn't even necessarily know we had to worry about are in fact things we have to be educated and be on top of," said Council Speaker Christine Quinn.

"I just want to protect my boys. It's hard protecting them against people you can see. It's even harder protecting them against people you can't," said parent Ayanna Brown.

The summit makes New York the first city in the country to host an event on internet safety.
