Before going on the auction block in Geneva, one of the world's rarest diamonds was previewed Monday at Sotheby's.

The blue colored diamond is expected to fetch up to $8.5 million when it's auctioned off on May 12th.

The stone weighs a little more than seven carats and is slightly smaller than a dime.

Conditions required to form a colored diamond occur rarely in nature.

The blue diamond was cut from a nearly 27-carat diamond, discovered last year in a diamond mine in northeastern South Africa.

The buyer will also have the honor of naming the stone.
