Governor David Paterson is viewed favorably by only 27 percent of voters – down from 29 percent
last month, according to a Siena Research poll out today.
The poll attributes Paterson's drop in popularity to his handling the state's finances, his approval of pay raises for his staff, and negotiating the budget in secrecy.
His job-performance rating is 18 percent positive, 81 percent negative. Many polled say they prefer the three previous governors over Paterson.
Only 12 percent of New Yorkers say they will vote for Paterson in 2010, with 71 percent preferring "someone else."
However, those polled did say they supported a bill introduced by Paterson last week to legalize same-sex marriage by a 14-percent margin, 53 percent to 39 percent.
Sienna surveyed 682 state registered voters. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points.
