A new poll says Mayor Michael Bloomberg's approval ratings are dropping and that his push to extend term limits may hurt him in next year's election.

A Marist poll released Friday says Bloomberg's approval ratings fell 9 percent in the past month, from 68 percent to 59 percent.

In that time, Bloomberg won a battle to pass legislation extending term limits for city officials.

Among the nearly 700 New Yorkers surveyed, 48 percent want the courts to overturn that decision and 40 percent say the mayor's term limits push makes them less likely to vote for him in 2009.

However, the poll still puts the mayor head of all Democratic challengers in the pollsters' potential election scenarios.

The margin of error is plus or minus 4 percentage points.
