In an one-on-one interview with NY1 Monday, Governor David Paterson said the current fiscal crisis on Wall Street may cause him to call state lawmakers back to Albany for a special Legislative session.

Speaking with political anchor Dominic Carter, Paterson said: “We don't know what the damage of the events that occurred this weekend is. I would not be surprised if the budget deficit we just cut down may skyrocket back up and I may have to call on the Legislature to come back and grapple with it again.”

This would be the second time the governor called for a special session this year.

Last month, state lawmakers cut $427 million from the state budget.
That's short of the $600 million that Paterson wanted cut from the state's $122 billion budget.

The overall plan adopted last month cuts state spending by nearly $2 billion over the next two fiscal years.
