A young Manhattan woman was hospitalized Tuesday night with a head injury after falling six floors in an apartment building elevator.

Residents of 90 Pinehurst Street in Washington Heights said that neighbor Jessica Carter, 22, stepped onto the elevator, which gave out.

According to fire officials, the elevator landed in the basement and the woman was injured on the way down.

Neighbors claimed that a few months ago the elevator previously fell from the first floor to the basement, causing another resident to be hospitalized.

The building’s super denied past trouble with the elevator.

As of midnight Wednesday, the woman was in St. Luke’s Hospital, and no details were known about her condition.

The cause of the elevator crash was unknown as of early Wednesday, but the Department of Buildings was investigating the incident.
