A candlelight vigil was held Tuesday night for a teenager shot and killed in front of a Brooklyn school.

Friends and family of Malachi Cotton set up the vigil on the corner where he was shot.

Police are still looking for the gunman.

Members of the community say they've been dealing with a rash of violence and it's time to stand up against it.

Cotton was shot just as he left Metropolitan Diploma High School in Brownsville Monday night.

His family is asking the gunman to turn himself in.

"He was a gentle giant. Everyone who knew him, loved him. He did no wrong to nobody. He didn't hurt anyone. If somebody knows something please come forward and let us know. Help us. Cause this is not gonna stop," said the victim's legal guardian

"If you see something, say something. And all those who don't want to snitch, tell me. I'll snitch. If you're afraid to snitch, I'll snitch. They say snitches get stitches, bring it. You tell me and I'll do the snitching," said City Councilman Charles Barron.

Cotton's family says he just started attending the school a few days ago.

Tuesday would have been his 17th birthday.
