Despite the Yankees' 5-4 loss Monday in Anaheim, die hard fans rallied throughout Game 3 of the ALCS from inside Yankee Stadium. NY1's Anthony Pascale filed the following report. It was an offer they couldn't refuse. Die hard fans who couldn't make it out to California for game 3 of the ALCS were invited to watch from inside Yankee Stadium. But it wasn't the outcome they were hoping for.
The Yanks took an early lead against Anaheim but fell short in the end after a controversial pitching change.
"Joe Girardi blew the game," said one Yankees fan. "He went over in the dugout and looked at the book and he took Robertson out because of something the book says. You can't manage the playoffs by the book. This loss is on Gerardi's head."
But even though the championship series won't be a sweep for the Yanks, those who came out to the stadium Monday night say they wouldn't have missed it.
"The real New York fans are here. You know the real New York fans are here, so this is outstanding. I really dig it man," said one Yankees fan.
"This is a chance for the true fans to come together and watch the game and to support our Yankees because they've made it this far," said another Yankees fan.
As the Bronx Bombers try to improve relations with their home borough, the team let the fans watch on the big screen for free -- no tickets, no admission fee.
Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Junior said he came up with the idea for those who have yet to see the new $1.5 billion ballpark.
"It's a step in the right direction. More needs to happen but we're happy, the community," Diaz Jr. said. "I've already run into members of the community who thanked me for this because if it weren't for this, their kids would never be able to come into Yankee Stadium."
Despite the loss, fans NY1 talked to are looking ahead to Game 4.
"We didn't get the sweep but hopefully well take it in Los Angeles or we'll come back and take it in the Bronx," said one Yankees fan.
"The Yankees tried so hard but we couldn't do it, we tried to pull it out but we just couldn't make it today. But we're 2-and-1 and we're going to do it this year believe that," said another Yankees fan.
The Yankees have no plans to open up the stadium again for any future away games, but team officials say they aren't ruling it out either.
