Twelve students at a Bronx high school were taken to the hospital Friday, after a pepper spray fight erupted in the school cafeteria.

Police say the incident prompted school officials to evacuate a building in Fordham which houses several schools, including Theodore Roosevelt High School.

Students described the scene as very confusing.

"If it was a real emergency, if it was a fire, we probably would have been the last ones to get out,” said one student. “Couple of us probably would have gotten hurt."

“Kids were scared. Most people were pushing. It was scary,” said another. “And they didn't really organize it when we were outside, because some people were saying to either go home or stay in."

"One of the deans told us to evacuate the building, but really I didn't know what was happening,” said a third. “So the teacher told us just to pack up. When we left, we just stood outside and we felt like we could have gone home."

The injured students were taken to Saint Barnabas in the Bronx.
