A popular Greenwich Village diner has closed its doors after a dispute between its owner and the building's landlord.

Joe Junior's, a 35-year-old diner on Sixth Avenue and 12th Street, closed Sunday, leaving its loyal customers a little distraught. Many lined up to sign a poster thanking the staff for providing what some considered a second home.

"I was shocked to see the sign there because this has been a fixture of this neighborhood for as long as i can remember. Since I was a kid, virtually," said one customer.

"It wasn't just about the food, it was a real community spot where people knew each other," said another customer.

The owner of the diner, Greg Hondros, says the landlord came in Friday morning and told him he wanted him out. He says the dispute with the landlord began when an electrical fire broke out in the basement on Monday.

Hondros says the landlord claimed it was their fault and demanded extensive repairs.
