The world's first real time carbon counter is now ticking away in Manhattan.
Deutsche Bank officials and MIT scientists flipped the switch Thursday on the 70-foot billboard on 7th Avenue. It gives an up-to-the-minute count of the carbon emissions and greenhouse gases in the sky.
Organizers say they hope the count will prompt people to change their behavior.
"Every second we put 800 metric tons of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Every second of every minute of every day of every year," said Deutsche Asset Management CEO Kevin Parker.
Previously, the count of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere was only released every few years, making it hard to have an up-to-date discussion about global warming.
