Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama's acceptance speech was not just about politics, but about history, and many of supporters gathered in Denver's Invesco Field say he hit it out of the park. NY1’s Michael Scotto filed the following story. The euphoria could be seen and heard.
Many of Barack Obama's supporters viewed his historic speech as a dream finally fulfilled.
“I never thought I'd see a black president in my lifetime and it’s moving. There are no words to describe it,” said Obama supporter Erica Barrera.
“I think he embodies all the hopes and dreams of all of us, of all Americans,” said Obama supporter Byron Gibson.
Between the fireworks display and the numerous celebrity sightings, the last day of the Democratic Convention had the feel of a Hollywood awards show. But putting aside all the theatrics, supporters thought Obama said what he needed to say.
“This clearly showed that he does have the experience to be commander-in-chief and move this country forward,” said Obama supporter Brian McPartlin.
Supporters who spoke with NY1 said Obama seemed to address critics by offering specific policy proposals in what was viewed as a well-orchestrated speech.
“He's dead on in explaining his plan. That's what people want to hear. Give me details,” said Obama supporter Sue Allen. “How are you going to help the families in the United States?”
What also struck some were his strong words for his opponent.
“He came out. He's ready to do what he has to do. He's standing up to John McCain. And we're gonna do it in November,” said Obama delegate Nina Tribble.
Yet others thought he needed to show a little more muscle.
“He can stand up to John McCain and I would like him to be tougher,” said Obama supporter Ira Von Hombracht.
His speech proved he's willing to fight.
