Carmen Marc Valvo and Oscar De La Renta unveiled their fall collections this week, dazzling the fashion world. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report.Even though the economy is on the skids, Oscar De La Renta looks for the silver lining in fall 2009 collection. He drapes his models in gold, bronze, and even leopard printed silk chiffon.
His luxurious collection screams, what recession?
"People see these as very difficult times, which they are," said de la Renta. "I see this as a time for opportunities."
And when it comes to Oscar de la Renta's latest collection, the opportunities are endless.
Meanwhile, before Carmen Marc Valvo revealed his collection at lounge Citrine in Chelsea, he rang Nasdaq's opening bell.
Later, he sounded the alarm: high-end glamour is back.
Like de la Renta, Valvo also thumbs his nose at the economy – unleashing a parade of dazzling and opulent looks that are drop-dead gorgeous, even on mannequins.
The superstar designer saved big bucks by leaving the tents, but he spared no expense when it came to detailing.
"In these recessionary times you need to be careful of what you're purchases are all about, so if you need a cocktail dress it really needs to be special," he said. "So I went to the complete extreme and I really enjoyed what I did."
As the saying goes, if you've got it, flaunt it. And in Valvo's look book, if you've money to burn, he's ready to light your fire!
