Designer Shaun Kearney is showing a collection full of urban glamour, while Badgley Mischka presents understated elegance. NY1's Jill Scott filed the following report. For the Cynthia Steffe fall 2009 collection, designer Shaun Kearney gives his polished sophisticated girl a bit of an attitude adjustment. It’s a little tough, a little sweet and a whole lot of sexy.
“This season is all about urban glamour… it’s about mixing uptown chic with downtown cool,” says Kearney.
Soft feminine looks offset strong fabrics and sexy details, like biker jackets, puff shoulders and collars that command your attention.
Textures run the gamut, from ruffled leather and faux fur to plush peacock. The palette includes everything from jet to jazzy jewel tones and tasty champagne. One sip of this collection and any urban girl is sure to be the toast of the town.
From downtown glamour to old world glamour, the Badgley Mischka collection is very upbeat because they say no matter the times, life is a cabaret.
“It’s sort of inspired by Christopher Isherwood and ‘The Berlin Diaries,’ which is basis for the movie ‘Cabaret,’ with dark storm clouds and a very optimistic girl in the middle of all of it,” says designer James Badgley.
With clothes like the fall collection, any woman would be optimistic in the face of abject tragedy. The collection is like the perfect dessert – decadent, indulgent and sinfully delicious. Delicate draping, beautiful beadwork and striking silhouettes rocked the runway.
The chic, elegant creations dazzled but were not overdone.
“You know, it’s not the same old Badgely Mischka. I think it’s a little more refined, a little more elegant, a little less beaded but still chic nonetheless,” says celebrity stylist Philip Bloch.
This season, less is more, as hemlines are shortened and tulle overlays tone down glitzy gowns.
If the message for fall is understated glamour, then Badgley Mischka can be heard loud and clear.
