While one designer looks to medieval times for inspiration, another design duo takes fashionistas to the streets of Paris. NY1's George Whipple filed the following report from the runways of Alexander Wang and Ruffian.

Two of the freshest collections were shown outside the tents. Alexander Wang presented his fall 2009 line at the historic Roseland in the Theater District.

Wang presided backstage, guiding the models and feeding them with a menu catered by Hooters.

The clothes were cutting edge with cut outs. A killer show set to the "Thriller" soundtrack. The fabrics ranged from the metallic to a black-and-white bonanza.

"There are a lot of medieval influences," said Wang. "There are bits reminiscent of armor and chain male and hardware, but still they very glam-rock aspect, with the Swarovski elements, and then working with merino wool and doing these beautiful tailored jackets with these glam-rock studs on them."

Another show that was out of the tents was Ruffian, which held its runway show at the New Dance Group on 38th Street.

The design duo behind the Ruffian brand was inspired by the City of Light.

We designed [the collection] when we were in Paris," said Ruffian co-designer Brian Wolk. "We stayed at our friends apartment for a week over Thanksgiving and it's about New Yorkers in Paris and about Parisians in New York and that exchange and the two cities."

Their first look was right out of the 1950s, with knickerbocker grays. Short and sassy clothes with a military feel also came down the runway.
