Designers Monique Lhuillier and Max Azria showed off their Fall 2009 collections Saturday under the tents at Bryant Park. NY1's Cheryl Wills filed the following report.Monique Lhuillier puts on her dancing shoes for Fall 2009. The designer says her collection is inspired by the modern ballet, giving ladies a chance to click their heels.
"I just approach fashion as escapism so there's fantasy and people actually turn to the clothes more in times like this because they want to just put something on and feel good and kind of forget what's happening," said Lhuillier.
But few will forget this collection which comes to life with fluid silhouettes in silk cocktails dresses with a play on layering. Lhuillier makes her autumn ensemble dance.
Meanwhile, Max Azria has been dancing to a romantic feminine beat for some 20 years and his latest collection is a celebration of his legacy.
Azria's BCBG label is more mature than in collections past, but still very flirty and a bit daring this time.
"We try to put on a runway show, a new trend of silhouette, and it's risky," said Azria.
Risky, but it totally works.
With more than two decades under his belt as a leading designer for chic women, Max Azria proves he still has the Midas touch.
