The houses of Rachel Roy and Rag and Bone unveiled their Fall 2009 collections Saturday. NY1's George Whipple filed the following report.

Rachel Roy showcased her Fall 2009 collection at a presentation in Chelsea. This season, the designer, the wife of rap mogul Damon Dash, says she was inspired by a woman's strength.

"I felt like a woman can really own how feminine you can be but be strong and I feel references to that in the 1940's and films like 'The Women', just films where men are not needed at all," said Roy.

Throughout the collection, we see innerwear as outerwear, a monochromatic palate and cutouts that emphasize the silhouettes.

"It's about strong shoulders, strong spiky heels and quite honestly it's about going on with your life with things that are more important," said Roy.

In the 1800's, Rag and Bone men trolled the lower Manhattan picking rags and bones from the slaughter house. They were the original recyclers. This Rag and Bone is certainly not antique, it is young, modern and British.

Their inspiration came from a galaxy far far away and Kurosawa's classic of Japanese cinema.

"The 'Seven Samurai' is one of my favorite films and it just has some beautiful clothes in it and more modern versions of that kind of film, 'The Last Samurai', which also has very nice clothes in it and those kinds of films and 'Star Wars' was a, I love 'Star Wars'," said Designer Marcus Wainwright.
