Disney Channel star Selena Gomez is building a massive fan base while staying true to her personal mission. NY1's George Whipple filed the following report. The kids certainly know her and some of them will say she's the biggest star around -- Selena Gomez.
George Whipple: How does that feel to be such a big star?
Selena Gomez: I'm not the biggest star in the world. No, it's a compliment, I love what I do and I feel blessed.
Selena got her start, like a lot of kids, with Barney.
"I was about seven years old when I got my first acting job, and that was 'Barney', and I got to sing with the big purple dinosaur," said Gomez. "It was a good experience, it was fun. I learned everything I needed to know about a prop and camera left and camera right but I also learned my manners."
Gomez stars in the upcoming Disney Channel movie, "Princess Protection Program."
"'Princess Protection Program' is basically a strong movie about friendship. A lot of girls look up to Demi's and my friendship and I think that's wonderful, and it's about a princess who's being threatened for her country to be taken over so we take her under our wing and she has to come live with me, who's a Tom Boy character, and when you put a Tom Boy and a princess together it doesn't really work," said Gomez.
George Whipple: This friendship seems to be phenomenal because you're both stars and so you don't have such suspicion of each other. Anyway, tell me a little about that relationship.
Selena Gomez: Well, I've known Demi since I was seven so I do feel like she knows me a little bit better that most people I meet and I think that we kind of are blessed to go through this whole thing together.
Gomez rocketed to fame in Disney's "The Wizards of Waverly Place."
"I mean, what kid doesn't wish they could rewind time and be invisible. I think we bring all that to life on our show," said Gomez.
George Whipple: If you could bring it to life what would you do?
Selena Gomez: Rewind time.
George Whipple: Ooooh, where would you go back to?
Selena Gomez: Um, kindergarten.
George Whipple: Yeah? That was fun, why?
Selena Gomez: Cause I had nap time and recess. I don't have that anymore.
