Scrimp, chicken, sausage and rice - in order to eat good paella, you don't have to leave New York for a taste of Spain. The Zagat restaurant guide reviewed to two locations for paella that packs a punch.

Sevilla
62 Charles Street
1-212-929-3189

Zagat says this West Village "oldie but goodie" is a "favorite haunt" for fans of "genuine paella" and other "flavorful" Spanish fare. Patrons call it "garlic paradise" and praise "servers who care" and "bargain" prices to boot. It opened circa 1941, so surveyors notice the decor "from year one."

Out of a possible 30, Sevilla gets a 21 for food, a 13 for décor and a 19 for service. The average price of a meal here is $39.

Socarrat Paella Bar
259 West 19th Street
1-212-462-1000

Zagat says this Spanish Chelsea eatery is named for the crunchy golden crust that forms on the bottom of a well-made paella. Here you can find six varieties of the classic rice dish along with a traditional tapas menu. Fans say the communal seating at a single lengthy table makes for a convivial feeling in the stylishly laid-back digs.

Socarrat Paella Bar is not yet rated in the Zagat guide but prices are listed as moderate.
