The city is now home to 200 miles of bike lanes, thanks to the addition of some new lanes in the Bronx.

The final stretch was added to the Grand Concourse Wednesday, completing a goal of installing bike lanes in every borough.

Officials say the lanes encourage more people to ride bikes.

"It's a great way to promote cycling," said Bronx Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. "We want people to go out there and to be healthier. We want them to leave their cars at home; their cars pollute the environment. They can save money on gas."

"We're doing everything we can to engineer safe streets, and make it easier and more affordable to get around and to build in healthy choices into their daily lives," said Department of Transportation Commissioner Janette Sadik-Khan.

The city hopes to have 1,800 miles of bikes lanes on streets, in parks, and along paths by 2030.
