The Federal Aviation Administration said Friday that an equipment outage was responsible for 814 of Thursday's more than 2,000 flight delays.
The outage affected 81 equipment-related delays at LaGuardia Airport, 44 at John F. Kennedy International Airport and 83 at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey.
The rest of the delays were caused by thunderstorms and other poor weather conditions in the northeastern United States.
The hardest-hit airport was in Atlanta, which was hit with 273 delays.
