Confirmation hearings for Senator Hillary Clinton's nomination for secretary of state will held next Tuesday.
Massachusetts Senator John Kerry, the incoming chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, announced today that next Tuesday's confirmation hearing will also concern Susan Rice, President-elect Barack Obama's designee to be the U.S. representative to the United Nations.
“My friend and colleague Hillary Clinton will bring her years of experience and acute intellect to her position as America’s top diplomat. Susan Rice’s expertise in foreign policy and commitment to strong alliances will be invaluable as she helps the president-elect restore America’s rightful role in the international arena," said Kerry.
The committee will then vote on the nomination on January 15, ahead of Rice's hearing.
Lawmakers from both parties say they do not expect any serious objections.
If nominated, Governor David Paterson will name a replacement for Clinton's Senate seat. He is considering Caroline Kennedy and several others for the position.
