A Staten Island homeowner who blamed the city for a serious standing water problem in front of her property can now breath a dry sigh of relief. NY1's Susan Jhun filed the following "NY1 For You" report.Whenever it rained, you could find homeowner Karen Ann Davis sweeping away standing water from the street in front of her house, to keep the water from ponding.
When Davis first called NY1, uneven pavement and a lack of drains in front of her house were causing water to pool, creating a huge headache for the homeowner.
"Unless a physical force, which is namely myself and this broom, pushes the water down, it's going to continue to sit here," Davis said. "From the top of Jewett Avenue down to the bottom of Crystal Avenue, I have never once known there to be a catch basin and sewer drain of any kind. I think it's assumed by the law of physics that if you live on a hill, water will continue to run downward and in a perfect world I'm sure that's to be absolutely true. Unfortunately, what I have is imperfect."
After NY1 contacted The Department of Transportation, the agency sent inspectors out to Davis' street and resurfaced the pavement. Now when it rains, instead of forming pools, the water runs down the hill into catch basins at the bottom.
An end to a truly draining experience.
