A trendy city retail chain is being sued for allegedly discriminating against some of its workers.

More than a dozen West African former employees of Scoop NYC gathered Wednesday for a protest in front of the SoHo store.

The group says they weren't paid overtime despite working 20-hour days and 60-hour weeks.

"We talked to them and said like, 'okay, we have to leave now and we're tired,'" explained former employee Ganiyu Mosebolatan. "They said, 'no, not until we tell you to leave,' and we didn't have an option."

The workers' attorney says Scoop told them they were on salary, but he says the security and stock workers should not have been.

"It's what you call misclassification," said attorney Walter Kane. "They said they were managers or assistant managers when they were doing regular work."

Some workers also say they were abruptly fired and told it was because they were here illegally, even though they showed the proper paperwork.

"I didn't believe this could happen to us because the American people are good people I know, I see how they behave, it's not in their thinking and it shocked me very much and I said I'm going to find people who will help us," said former Scoop employee Romuald Ilboudo.

"I think it's important for retailers in New York to understand that exploitation of workers will not be tolerated in this city," said Retail Union President Stuart Appelbaum.

The workers are seeking $500,000 in unpaid wages and damages.
